This Pol House is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of a traditional courtyard residence, designed to accommodate an extended family of approximately twenty members while maintaining privacy, hierarchy, and shared living. The house is organized around a large central chowk that functions as the social and spatial heart of the home, bringing daylight, ventilation, and visual continuity across both levels.

Circulation is inward-facing, with verandahs and galleries wrapping the courtyard to ensure movement remains shaded, intuitive, and socially connected. The spatial planning balances collective living with individual retreat. Multiple family living areas, communal dining spaces, and semi-public verandahs support daily interaction, festivals, and gatherings, while bedrooms are clustered around secondary and private courtyards to create quieter zones for rest.

The layout follows a clear progression from public to private, beginning with the otla and entry verandah, moving through shared halls and courts, and finally reaching intimate sleeping and study spaces. Architecturally, the design draws from the Pol typology through thick masonry walls, layered thresholds, internal courtyards, and climate-responsive planning.

Material choices and proportions emphasize durability and comfort. Shaded passages, controlled openings, and open-to-sky courts ensure thermal comfort within a dense urban context. The house enables multiple generations to coexist with visual connection without constant overlap, reinforcing a strong sense of family identity anchored around shared spaces.
